Overview
This project involved scanning, restoring, and printing a portrait of a woman’s two daughters with Santa. The photograph had been kept in a frame for many years and developed visible sun damage along the edges where it was exposed to light. The client wanted the damage repaired quickly and a restored print produced within a short time frame.
Process
Scanning and Damage Assessment
I began by scanning the original photograph and assessing the extent of the sun damage along the frame’s edge. The fading was noticeable but limited to specific areas, which allowed for targeted restoration.
Restoration and Color Matching
The client requested the restoration be completed within twenty minutes. I spent approximately fifteen minutes in Photoshop repairing the sun-damaged areas, carefully blending tones so the corrected sections matched the unaffected portions of the image.
Print Production
After final adjustments, I prepared the file for printing and worked with the lab to produce the restored image. The printed result matched the original tones almost exactly, creating a seamless and natural-looking restoration.
Results and Reflection
The client was very happy with how accurately the restored image matched the original photograph. This project highlights my ability to work efficiently under tight time constraints, restore damaged images with precision, and color-match prints to preserve the original look and feel of sentimental photographs.
