Photograph Scan, Restoration, and Print
Background/Context
Role: Head Digital Artist & Retouching Specialist
Tools Used: Epson V700, Photoshop, Lightroom Classic
Company: Omega Photo
Overview
This project involved scanning, restoring, and printing a photograph that had been damaged while adhered to glass. The client had attempted to remove the image from the glass, which caused part of the photo emulsion to tear. The goal was to digitize the image safely, repair the damage as much as possible, and prepare it for print.
Process
Scanning Through Glass and Damage Assessment
Because the photograph was still attached to the glass, I scanned the image with the glass intact and carefully aligned the photo and glass to capture as much usable detail as possible.
The torn emulsion resulted in missing detail, particularly along the girls’ collars, which required more involved restoration work.
Restoration and Reconstruction
Black and White Conversion and Print Setup
Results and Reflection
The final print successfully repaired the visible damage and preserved the integrity of the original photograph. The client was extremely happy with the outcome and appreciated the care taken to restore such a meaningful image.
This project highlights my ability to problem-solve around physical damage, reconstruct missing details thoughtfully, and deliver a finished print that meets both technical and emotional expectations.
