Process
Scanning and Handling
Image Cleanup and Enhancement
After scanning, I focused on removing visible dust and imperfections. To improve clarity, especially around the subject’s face, I used Photo AI to gently sharpen the image while maintaining a natural look.
Once the detail was enhanced, I brought the image into Lightroom Classic to adjust exposure, black and white points, and shadows. These changes helped lift the dullness of the original photograph while keeping the tones balanced and realistic.
Print Preparation
After finalizing the restoration, the client requested a fine art print on rag photographic paper. I prepared the file for printing to ensure the image translated well onto the chosen material.
Results and Reflection
The final print turned out beautifully, with noticeably improved clarity and depth while still honoring the character of the original photograph. The result impressed both the client and my colleagues, reinforcing the value of careful restoration and print preparation.
This project highlights my attention to detail, respect for original materials, and ability to balance digital enhancement with preserving authenticity.
