Large-Format Scan & Color Restoration

Background/Context

Role: Digital Artist & Retouching Specialist
Tools Used: Epson V700, Photoshop, Lightroom Classic
Company: Omega Photo

Overview

This project involved scanning and enhancing a low-quality photograph so the client could print an enlarged version. The original image had limited resolution, which required careful enhancement to improve clarity without making the photo look artificial or over-processed.

Process

Scanning and Initial Assessment

I began by scanning the original photograph and assessing how much detail could realistically be recovered. The image quality was low, so it was important to approach enhancement thoughtfully and set realistic expectations for the final result.

Image Enhancement and Review

I used Photo AI to enhance the image as much as possible while keeping the result natural. Because AI tools can easily be overused, I took a conservative approach and checked in with colleagues during the process to get second opinions. This helped me find the right balance between improving sharpness and preserving the authenticity of the original photo.

By reviewing the image collaboratively, I was able to adjust enhancement levels until the image felt noticeably improved without introducing unwanted artifacts

Final

Results and Reflection

The final image was successfully enhanced and printed at a larger size than the original. While there were natural limitations based on the starting quality, the print turned out well considering the condition of the source image.

This project highlights my ability to use AI tools thoughtfully, collaborate with teammates for quality control, and make careful judgment calls when enhancing images with technical limitations.
