Editorial Layout & Fine Art Print
Background/Context
Role: Digital Artist & Retouching Specialist
Tools Used: Photoshop, InDesign
Company: Omega Photo
Overview
This project involved transforming a scanned article into a polished, frame-ready print. The client emailed scanned images of a published article highlighting his sister’s accomplishments and wanted it reformatted into a clean, readable layout that he could print, frame, and gift to her.
The goal was to preserve the original content while elevating the presentation through thoughtful layout and typography.
Process
Asset Preparation
The client provided scanned images of the article, including photos, logos, and colored graphic elements.
To begin, I captured individual screenshots of each image, logo, and colored bar so they could be edited independently. I cleaned up and sharpened the photos to improve clarity and ensure they would reproduce well in print.
Layout and Typography
Once the assets were prepared, I moved into InDesign to rebuild the article layout from scratch. I focused on using clear typographic hierarchy, mindful spacing, and paragraph breaks to make the article easier to read while still feeling balanced and intentional.
I knew early on that the article would need to span two pages, so I designed both pages with equal visual weight, knowing they would be displayed side by side in a frame.
After refining spacing and deciding how content should be distributed between pages, I finalized the layout and arranged the pages side by side so the entire article could be read at once.
Results and Reflection
The final design was printed on Baryta Photographic II fine art paper, giving the piece a polished, gallery-quality finish appropriate for a meaningful gift. The client was very happy with the result and purchased a frame the same day.
This project highlights my ability to translate editorial content into a visually balanced layout, work thoughtfully with typography, and prepare designs for high-quality fine art printing.
