Large-Format Scan & Color Restoration

Background/Context

Role: Digital Artist & Retouching Specialist
Tools Used: Epson V1000, Photoshop, Lightroom Classic
Company: Omega Photo

Overview

This was a large-format scan and color restoration project that I managed from start to finish. The original artwork was larger than the scanner available in the studio, which required a more hands-on approach to ensure accuracy, alignment, and color consistency throughout the restoration process.

Process

Scanning and Image Assembly

Because the original piece exceeded the size of our scanner, I scanned the image in two separate sections.

After completing both scans, I carefully stitched the two files together to create a single, seamless digital image while preserving alignment and detail.

Color Restoration and Preparation

Once the full image was assembled, I began restoring the file in Photoshop. The original scan contained a strong blue color cast, which needed to be corrected before further edits. I focused on removing the blue tones and cleaning up the file to create a strong foundation for tonal adjustments.

Final Edits

After preparing the image in Photoshop, I brought the file into Lightroom Classic for final adjustments. The client wanted an aged, timeless look, so I converted the image to black and white and added a subtle yellow tone to achieve a soft sepia effect.

Results and Reflection

The final image successfully captured the vintage feel the client was looking for while maintaining clarity and balance. The customer received the completed digital file and was happy with the final result.

This project highlights my ability to problem-solve around physical limitations, manage multi-step restoration workflows, and move efficiently between tools to achieve a polished final outcome.
